Capturing both the complexity and elegance of great Alexander Valley Zinfandel, this wine offers intense aromas of black raspberry, crème de mûre and plum, mixed with hints of cardamom, dried meats and sweet tobacco leaf. On the palate, excellent acidity adds a lively freshness to the briary black fruit flavors, while drawing the wine to a lush, lingering conclusion.
91% Zinfandel, 9% Petite Sirah
This wine comes from Block 17, our premier block of Zinfandel, planted to the prized 115-year-old Teldeschi clone. Year after year, this block produces our most concentrated, deeply colored and focused Zinfandel.
Our Block 17 Zinfandel was fermented as 100% whole berries in a French oak open-top cask, where it underwent a 15-day maceration period. This was followed using a traditional manual basket press. Aging was done entirely in French oak barrels. The wine was racked twice and spent 15 months in barrel, with 33% of the oak being new.
