Tasting notes

The 2023 vintage yielded a Cabernet Sauvignon of striking sophistication and depth. Its dark ruby color hints at the richness within, unveiling seductive aromas of black currant, licorice, violet, tobacco leaf, and a savory touch of tapenade. On the palate, a plush, velvety texture is elevated by seamlessly integrated oak and fine, dusty tannins that frame the bold flavors of dark berries and crème de cassis. Subtle notes of sweet oak and spice add warmth and complexity, while vibrant natural acidity carries the wine to a long, fresh finish. Elegant yet powerful—this is a vintage and blend that captures both finesse and intensity in perfect balance.

92 Points, Wine Enthusiast - Dusty cocoa, cinnamon, and espresso mingle with aromas of concentrated raspberry and cherry on the nose of this Cab. The palate balances bright acid and supple tannin with flavors of baked black plum, chopped mint, chocolate, and flowers across a grippy finish. - Tom R. Capo

Our Estate Cabernet Sauvignon blend highlights three clones, from seven separate blocks, with vines ranging in age from 25 to 35 years old.  On our river benchland blocks we farm clone 337, which showcases its fruit-forward black cherry flavors. Our hillside blocks are planted to two clones: clone 7, which contributes floral layers and classic Cabernet cassis and cherry elements, and the Belle Terre clone, our oldest plantings, provide tannic concentration and blue fruit notes. The final wine reflects the diversity of our vineyard.

Our Cabernet harvest resulted in several individual native fermentations, without any commercial yeast being added,in a mix of open-top and closed-top tanks. In the closed-top tanks, the must was pumped-over, which added to palate texture; while the open-top tanks had a punch-down regimen, which retained fruit intensity. The wine was racked to 50% new French oak and underwent spontaneous malolactic fermentation. Each lot was aged separately for 18 months before blending, barrel by barrel, into tank just prior to bottling.
